Fan Belt, 1200-1600cc, Dynamo, 9.5 x 905, T1 engine (Optibelt)
Please note, we would always recommend using the wider 11.3mm fan belt (code 712.000.20) on all T1 engines, irrespective of Dynamo / Alternator / model year.
The size 9.5mm refers to the width of the belt, 905mm refers to the length. This belt was originally used on T1 engines up to 1973. However, back in the 1970's more and more demands were put onto the fan belt, with the introduction of the larger twin port fan, and also larger output Alternators. This resulted in fan belts failing, due to the extra demand. Volkswagen addressed the problem, by introducing the thicker, and stronger 11.3mm belt, our item code 712.000.20. The belts are interchangeable, you can use either, but the 11.3mm belt is stronger We would only suggest using the 9.5mm belt if you have an early car, with a Single Port engine and Dynamo, and want the correct original spec belt for show purposes.
